How do you get video off a video camera to your computer?
I have a JVC GR-D870U Video Camera, and I have to record a project for school. I want to upload it to my computer so I can edit it, how do I get it on my computer? Would I need a cord? If so what kind? Help is greatly appreciated, thanks.
Most cameras use a Firewire cable. Yours does too. Ensure that you have a firewire interface on your computer and that you have a firewire cable. If you don’t have these, you will need to buy them.
Put your camcorder in play mode and plug it into your computer using the firewire cable.
Windows Movie Maker works great for capturing video from your camera into DV AVI format or WMV format onto your hard drive. Choose DV AVI if you plan to edit the movie.
If you’re using a Mac, use iMovie.
DV AVI files are about 12 GB per hour.
The USB connector is only for transferring still images that you’ve captured onto your memory card.
